This measure applies at all border points of the country. In practice, here are the documents that must be presented upon entry and exit: 1/ If the minor is traveling with both parents - Their personal passport. - A full copy of the birth certificate translated by a sworn translator or their multilingual birth certificate extract. There is no condition regarding the date of issue of these civil status documents. - The family record book may also be presented to prove filiations. 2/ If the minor is traveling with only one of his or her two non-separated parents - The documents in point 1. - An authorization to leave the territory which must be completed and signed by the parent not traveling and accompanied by a copy of his or her identity document certified as a true copy of the original. This authorization must be less than 6 months old on the date of travel. Travelers must contact the town hall of their place of residence to have the signature on the authorization certified (free). They can also contact a notary to do this (for a fee) or the South African embassy in their country of residence. 3/ For minors whose one of the parents has died - The documents in point 1. - The parent's death certificate translated by a sworn translator or the multilingual extract of the death certificate. 4/ If the minor is traveling with only one of his or her divorced or officially separated parents - The documents from points 1 and 2. - If it is impossible to obtain an exit permit from the other parent, the divorce judgment or any other official document attesting to the allocation of custody of the child translated into English (if applicable) by a sworn translator. 5/ If the minor is accompanied by an adult but is not traveling with either parent - The documents from points 1 and 2. French nationals (adults, babies and children)

For tourist stays in South Africa of less than 90 days, holders of a French passport (ordinary, diplomatic or service) are exempt from a prior visa. A 90-day residence permit will be issued at the border and upon entry into South Africa. The passport must imperatively have two blank pages and be valid for 6 months after the planned date of exit from South Africa. In order to avoid difficulties at the start, it is strongly recommended to check that the validity date indicated on the stamp affixed by the South African immigration services, upon entry into the country, corresponds to the length of stay obtained. Passport and visa control: the introduction of the new biometric data collection system in July 2016 is generating long waits at the passport and visa control counters at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. This situation may have consequences for connecting passengers. For further information, please contact the South African Embassy in France (addresses of foreign missions in France), on the website of the Maison des Français de l'Etranger.
